At home, by the tree

Window light in the morning, the tree lit, and the family doing what it actually does: reading, wrapping, making breakfast. Keep outfits calm so the tree provides the colour. An at-home session suits families with babies and toddlers, who are happiest in their own space.

Outdoors at golden hour

December light in The Woodlands is soft and low all afternoon. Pines, a blanket, warm layers and a thermos make a simple, timeless setting. Forest green and cream against the trees reads as festive without a single decoration in the frame.

Small touches that work

  • One festive prop, not five: a wreath, a string of warm lights, a wrapped gift for a child to hold.
  • Bare feet and pyjamas for a relaxed morning session.
  • A walk to look at neighbourhood lights at dusk for a different feel.
  • Grandparents included in a few frames; those photographs matter most later.

When to book so cards go out on time

Photograph in the first half of November for cards mailed in early December. Galleries arrive within three weeks, sooner for holiday sessions, and I will flag a few card-friendly frames first so you can order while the rest is being edited.
